Overview

The Korea Foundation is accepting applications for approximately 15 field-research fellowships enabling eligible overseas Korea-related scholars and researchers to conduct 1–6 months of on-site research in South Korea during 2027.

Complete fellowship details

The fellowship supports Korea-related research in the humanities, social sciences, culture and arts, including recognized emerging research areas closely connected to Korea. Field research may take place between 1 January and 31 December 2027 for one to six months, with research starting no later than 30 November 2027. Applicants must secure an affiliate scholar and host institution in Korea themselves.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must be active outside Korea and meet the current Type A or Type B criteria. Type A covers doctoral candidates who completed coursework and are writing their dissertation. Type B covers full-time university lecturers/professors or research/professional personnel holding a PhD. The current call also sets foreign-citizenship/permanent-residency rules and excludes certain recent or concurrent Korean public-institution research support.

Tips for this fellowship

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
