Associate Architect - Software Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Associate Architect - Software Developer based in Canada. This role offers the opportunity to architect, build, and optimize scalable, high-performance web applications in a modern Java-based microservices environment. You will lead key stages of the software development lifecycle, from technical design and API development through testing and performance optimization. Working with technologies such as Spring Boot, React, and Angular, you will help deliver robust and maintainable solutions for complex business challenges. The position combines hands-on software engineering with technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration. You will contribute to engineering standards, automation, architecture, and continuous improvement across large-scale systems. This is a fully remote opportunity for professionals working in the Eastern Time Zone, with significant exposure to modern AI, cloud, data, and software technologies.

Determine, prioritize, and manage engineering deliverables across the complete software development lifecycle. Collaborate with business stakeholders to refine and continuously improve technical product specifications. Architect and develop scalable applications using high-performing, maintainable, and clean Java code. Design and implement backend microservices and RESTful APIs using modern engineering practices. Build and optimize responsive frontend interfaces using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Automate repetitive engineering and operational workflows through scripts, tools, and efficient development processes. Troubleshoot complex software systems, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies. Apply rigorous testing and test-driven development practices to ensure reliable and maintainable applications. Conduct peer code reviews and actively participate in technical feedback and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external partners to strengthen solution architecture and delivery. Ensure application stacks remain aligned with current technical standards, engineering principles, and industry best practices. Requirements 7+ years of professional software development experience, with proven expertise building performant and clean Java applications across large-scale systems. Strong hands-on experience architecting backend microservices with Spring Boot. Experience developing modern frontend applications with React, Angular, or Vue.js. Deep knowledge of relational databases, including MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server. Extensive experience designing and implementing robust RESTful web APIs. Strong commitment to test-driven development and automated testing methodologies. Practical experience using Generative AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot within Spec-Driven Development workflows. Advanced proficiency with Git and collaborative software development practices. Familiarity with enterprise performance monitoring platforms such as DataDog and New Relic. Experience with automated testing tools including Selenium, Cypress, and RestAssured. Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and individual technical leadership skills. Ability to independently drive engineering initiatives with limited guidance. Comfortable learning unfamiliar technologies and working in continuously evolving technical environments. Strong collaboration skills and experience working effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot complex technical issues and deliver impactful solutions in fast-paced environments. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline. Nice-to-have experience includes Docker, Kubernetes, Istio, Ansible, Jenkins, Unix/Linux, IP networking, AWS, Microsoft Azure, OAuth, SAML, and OpenID Connect. Additional desirable experience includes multi-tenant SaaS platforms, distributed systems, Service-Oriented Architecture, scripting with Python, Bash, or Groovy, and supporting mission-critical production systems. Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical development within engineering teams is also valued.
