Overview

A*STAR's open second-cycle International Fellowship funds up to two years of overseas postdoctoral research or innovation training.

Complete fellowship details

The second 2026 application cycle is open from 1 July through 1 October 2026. AIF offers Research and Innovation tracks for up to two years of overseas postdoctoral training at approved universities, research institutions or eligible deep-tech/venture environments. Coverage includes overseas living and sustenance allowances, annual return airfare, settling-in, computer and conference allowances, and personal insurance. Fellows return to Singapore for a three-year service commitment.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants generally must be Singapore citizens or permanent residents; exceptional non-SPR foreigners may be considered but must obtain Singapore citizenship before the fellowship starts. Applicants must have completed a PhD within the last four years, have no existing institutional bond, and meet track-specific requirements. Final-stage PhD candidates may apply subject to conferment.

Tips for this fellowship

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
