Overview
A*STAR's Research Attachment Programme enables international PhD students enrolled at overseas universities to spend one to two years conducting jointly supervised research at an A*STAR research institute in Singapore.
Complete research opportunity details
ARAP is a researcher-to-researcher collaboration programme. The next nomination deadline is 1 December 2026. Attachments normally last one to two years and may commence around six months after the award. Current official coverage includes a monthly stipend, housing allowance, one-time IT allowance, one-time airfare grant, one-time settling-in allowance, visa costs, medical insurance and conference allowance. A*STAR does not cover tuition fees charged by the student's home university. The current official page does not publish fixed monetary rates for these components, so no amount is inferred here.
Eligibility requirements
International/overseas-based postgraduate or PhD students enrolled at overseas universities must be jointly nominated by their home-university supervisor and an A*STAR supervisor. A bachelor's degree with at least Second-Class Upper Honours or equivalent, strong referral reports and a good research track record are expected. Integrated MSc-PhD students are placed on ARAP only during the PhD phase. No formal English test is required by ARAP, but applicants should have sufficient English proficiency for research in Singapore.
Tips for this research opportunity
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Match your research background to the project, laboratory, supervisor and required methods rather than applying only from the title.
- Prepare a focused academic CV, transcripts, publications and research statement or proposal when requested by the official call.
- Confirm funding duration, stipend/salary, tuition coverage, start date and eligibility for international applicants.
- Contact a supervisor before applying only when the official instructions recommend or require it.
Verification notes
Verified against ASTAR's current ARAP programme page. The official page states nomination deadlines of 1 June and 1 December, one-to-two-year attachments, current eligibility, funding components and that home-university tuition is not covered. No deadline clock time or current fixed allowance amounts are published there, so none were invented. Students from partner universities are directed to their university contact; ASTAR supervisors submit nominations.
Job and Scholarship is the discovery and verification layer. Confirm eligibility, dates, salary/funding and application instructions on the original source before submitting anything.
