Overview

Bilateral Singapore–Hong Kong research grants: up to HK$1m for 24-month Phase 1 and HK$1.8m additional Phase 2 funding for selected projects.

Complete grant details

The A*STAR/RGC Joint Research Scheme funds integrated Singapore–Hong Kong collaborations in Artificial Intelligence for Smart Cities of Tomorrow, Science for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, and Translational Immunology and Emerging Diseases. Up to ten proposals may receive Phase 1 support for 24 months, followed by a review selecting at most three projects for a further 36-month Phase 2.

Eligibility requirements

Hong Kong applicants must fully meet the Research Grants Council General Research Fund eligibility requirements. Singapore applicants must meet A*STAR's eligibility requirements. The same joint proposal must be submitted in parallel by the Singapore and Hong Kong applicants, and only proposals satisfying both agencies' rules are accepted. Hong Kong submissions go through the coordinating UGC-funded university's research office; each UGC-funded university has a quota of five submissions.

Tips for this grant

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

Verification notes

Verified against the current RGC A*STAR/RGC Joint Research Scheme page, which is marked open for application. Phase 1 offers up to HK$1 million for 24 months to a maximum of ten proposals; at most three may continue for another 36 months with up to HK$1.8 million additional funding. The source states 5:00 pm on 20 October 2026 but does not explicitly label the timezone, so the machine deadline is null. Submission is parallel and institutional; no restricted system was bypassed.
