Semester 1 placements run from February to May 2027. ANIP is open across academic disciplines and combines host-placement experience with structured policy-research and professional-skills learning. Commonwealth Government, Commonwealth Parliament and ACT Legislative Assembly placements are restricted to Australian citizens, while eligible international and exchange students at ANU may be placed with local government, embassies, NGOs, peak bodies, think tanks and research centres. Entry is competitive and depends on application quality, academic merit and placement availability.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be currently enrolled at an Australian or international university, have permission for the ANIP course to count toward their degree, and have completed or be on track to complete at least two full years of university study (96 ANU units or equivalent) by enrolment. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from any discipline may apply. Host-specific citizenship restrictions apply to some government and parliamentary placements.
