Job Overview

Pulse is currently seeking a highly experienced and motivated Band 8a Specialist Pharmacist – Diabetes and Endocrinology to join the pharmacy team in Warrington. This specialist role offers the opportunity to provide clinical pharmacy leadership and expert pharmaceutical support to the Diabetes and Endocrinology service while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across the Trust.

The successful candidate will play a key role in optimising medicines use, supporting complex clinical decision-making, and ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-effective use of medicines within the specialty. The post may also involve providing cross-site support to Halton Hospital where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist clinical pharmacy leadership and support to the Diabetes and Endocrinology service.

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes and medicines use.

  • Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to clinicians and other healthcare professionals.

  • Undertake medicines reconciliation and comprehensive clinical medication reviews.

  • Support the prescribing, monitoring, and safe use of high-risk medicines. Contribute to the safe and timely discharge of patients.

  • Provide independent prescribing support where appropriately qualified, competent, and authorised.

  • Lead and contribute to medicines optimisation initiatives within the specialty. Support the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, protocols, and governance processes.

  • Participate in clinical audits and service improvement projects relating to diabetes and endocrinology.

  • Provide education and training to pharmacy, medical, nursing, and allied healthcare staff.

  • Deliver medicines-related education and support to patients and carers.

  • Provide professional leadership within the specialty area.

  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and trainee staff.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

  • Have significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience at Band 8a level or equivalent.

  • Demonstrate specialist clinical knowledge in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

  • Have experience providing advanced clinical pharmacy services within an NHS hospital setting.

  • Possess excellent knowledge of medicines optimisation, medicines governance, and clinical risk management.

  • Be confident working within multidisciplinary teams and influencing clinical decision-making.

  • Independent Prescriber qualification is desirable.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.

  • Have experience supporting training, education, audit, and service development initiatives.
