Overview
The University of Melbourne and the University of Bonn are accepting joint research proposals for the 2027 Bonn—Melbourne Research Excellence Fund, with Early Career Researchers required to have a significant role.
Complete grant details
Up to two collaborative applications will be funded. Each successful application can receive up to €10,000 from the University of Bonn and up to AUD 16,000 from the University of Melbourne for research activities such as joint workshops, researcher exchanges and collaborative-network development. Projects commence 1 January 2027.
Eligibility requirements
Each proposal must link a University of Bonn PI and a University of Melbourne PI and include Early Career Researchers in a significant role. ECRs are defined as being within 10 years of PhD conferral excluding career interruptions. Bonn PIs must be doctorate-qualified research staff with qualifying employment; Melbourne PIs generally need an Academic Level A6-or-higher appointment of at least 0.5 FTE for the award period, subject to the scheme's detailed honorary and reporting rules.
Tips for this grant
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
