We are pleased to announce two new bursaries to support MSc study in the Division of Psychiatry, both intended to improve access to groups whom we would like to see more represented among our students

Bursary For A Student From An Under Represented Black And Minority Ethnic Group

We aim to award this bursary to the applicant from a relevant Black and Minority Ethnic group who appears most promising as a future researcher in mental health. The bursary will be worth £5,000 for students, awarded as a single sum for those registering full-time and split across two years for those registering on flexible or part time pathways. To be considered for this bursary, prospective students must apply for the MSc in Mental Health Sciences Research, or the MSc in Clinical Mental Health Sciences in the Division of Psychiatry AND ALSO apply for this bursary by sending to dop.msc.enquiries@ucl.ac.uk , a brief CV of not more than 2 pages, a statement confirming that they are eligible for the Bursary, and a statement of up to 500 words summarising:

(a) their research achievements so far;

(b) how they envisage research being part of their future career;

(c) what topic in mental health they would like to research in future, why, and how they would approach it.

Awards will be made on the basis of the applications. You need to be a UK-permanent resident and confirm that you are from one of the following ethnic groups, under-represented among previous students: · Black (Black or Black British African, Black or Black British Caribbean, Black or Black British other or Mixed Black or Black British) · Pakistani (Pakistani or Pakistani British, or Pakistani Mixed or Pakistani Mixed British) · Bangladeshi (Bangladeshi or Bangladeshi British, or Bangladeshi Mixed or Bangladeshi Mixed British).

Bursary For A Student With Lived Experience Of Using Mental Health Services

We aim to award this bursary to the applicant with personal experience of using mental health services for significant mental health problems, who appears most promising as a future researcher in mental health. The scholarships will be worth £5,000 for students registering full time and £2,500 for those registering on flexible or part time pathways (for each year provided they continue). To be considered for this bursary, prospective students must apply for the MSc in Mental Health Sciences Research or the MSc in Clinical Mental Health Sciences in the Division of Psychiatry AND ALSO apply for this bursary by sending to the MSc Course Administrators at dop.msc.enquiries@ucl.ac.uk , a brief CV of not more than 2 pages, a statement confirming that they are eligible for the Bursary, and a statement of up to 750 words summarising:

(a) their research achievements so far;

(b) how they envisage research being part of their future career;

(c) what topic in mental health they would like to research in future, why, and how they would approach it.

(d) their view about how they could use their lived experience of mental health problems in their future career and how this may be a strength for their research.

(e) A statement of eligibility that you have lived experience of using mental health services for significant mental health problems.

We will offer some additional mentorship sessions from a UCL researcher with relevant lived experience, to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

The deadline to apply for the bursaries is 5pm, Friday 28 August 2026.
