Role Overview:

The Business Development Manager will lead new business development and strategic account management for Trinseo's ABS, PS, and broader plastics solutions portfolio in Japan.

The role requires an experienced native Japanese commercial professional with strong industry networks and proven success in the chemical materials, plastics, polymers, or Japanese automotive OEM (JOEM) sectors. The incumbent will drive business growth through customer acquisition, specification approvals, and long-term relationship development with key Japanese manufacturers and decision-makers.

Responsibilities

• Explore and identify the business opportunities, with focus on but not limited to ABS and PS in Japan and Japanese customers cross Asia- Set up and arrange qualification trial together with TS&D in target customers, achieve commercial order with forecast input- Achieve and input industry and market information timely- Lead and coordindate the sales order processing with CSR and planner, ensure the account receivable on time- Develop account plan and maintain Trinseo’s position in target customers- Manage and optimize the channel to support Japanese customers

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Chemical Enginerering, Administration or International trading

Minimum Experience:

10+ years of progressive sales, business development, or account management experience, preferably within:

• Chemical materials industry

• Engineering plastics, polymers, resins, or specialty materials

• Automotive materials and components

• Japanese OEM (JOEM) or Tier-1 automotive supply chain

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Mandatory (Must have)

• Native Japanese speaker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Fluent in English, capable of conducting commercial negotiations, presentations, and internal stakeholder management in a global organization.

• 10+ years of commercial experience in chemical materials, engineering plastics, polymers, or related industries.

• Strong existing network and relationships with Japanese customers, particularly in automotive, home appliance, industrial, and compounding sectors.

• Proven track record of business development and winning new business with Japanese customers.

• Strong understanding of ABS, PS, engineering plastics, polymer materials, or related applications.

• Demonstrated experience working with Japanese OEMs (JOEMs) and/or major Tier-1 suppliers.

• Strong commercial acumen with capability to develop growth strategies and deliver profitable revenue growth.

Preferred

• Experience working for multinational chemical companies or leading Japanese chemical/material manufacturers.

• Technical background in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or related disciplines.

• Knowledge of automotive material qualification and specification approval processes.

• Experience managing distributors and channel partners in Japan.
