Commonwealth Alumni in Cameroon recently participated in PROMOTE 2026, the biggest in international exhibition for Enterprises, SMEs and Partnerships.
Held in Yaoundé from 12–21 June 2026, PROMOTE brought together enterprises, SMEs, partners, public institutions, and international stakeholders for ten days of exhibitions, discussions, and networking. Against this high-profile backdrop, alumni-focused activities provided an important platform for Chevening, Commonwealth, and wider UK alumni to demonstrate how their UK education and networks continue to support leadership, innovation, and development in Cameroon.
Sharing life after UK studies
The programme was designed to showcase alumni as advocates, connectors, and contributors to national development conversations.
A key highlight was the “Life After the UK” panel discussion, which attracted a diverse audience of young people, aspiring students, Chevening and Commonwealth Alumni, and members of the wider UK alumni community. Alumni panellists shared reflections on returning home after studying in the UK, building successful careers, and using their knowledge, confidence, and professional networks to create impact in Cameroon. Through open and practical discussion, the session explored career progression, leadership, and opportunities after a UK education.
Alumni also contributed to a range of UK-led thematic events during PROMOTE, bringing their expertise to discussions on women and girls’ empowerment, robotics and innovation, and UK–Cameroon bilateral relations. Their participation reflected the breadth of talent within the alumni community and demonstrated how UK alumni are applying their skills across sectors that are vital to Cameroon’s social and economic development.
Building lasting partnerships
The week also provided valuable opportunities for relationship-building beyond formal sessions. An Alumni Engagement Reception hosted by the British High Commissioner to Cameroon, HE Matt Woods, brought together recently returned scholars, established alumni, and key network representatives. More than 40 UK alumni and partners attended, including Commonwealth Alumni, creating space for conversation, collaboration, and renewed engagement.
The reception helped strengthen connections across the alumni community and provided an opportunity to recognise alumni contributions, encourage cross-sector collaboration, and reinforce the role of alumni networks as a bridge between individual achievement and wider partnership goals.
As alumni continue to apply their skills and networks across Cameroon, their contributions remain an important part of the wider UK–Cameroon partnership, helping to inspire future scholars, strengthen professional communities, and turn international education into lasting local impact.
