The Programa Institucional de Doutorado-Sanduíche no Exterior (PDSE) enables doctoral students enrolled in eligible Brazilian graduate programmes to conduct part of their thesis research abroad and then return to Brazil to complete the doctorate. Selection begins inside the student's Brazilian institution; only institution-selected candidates proceed to the CAPES online registration stage. The current call schedules overseas activities for September or October 2027.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be regularly enrolled in an eligible doctoral programme in Brazil and be selected through their institution's internal PDSE process. The candidate must submit a research plan for the period abroad, satisfy academic and language requirements in Edital 22/2026 and the institution's internal call, have an eligible foreign co-supervisor/host arrangement, and comply with CAPES rules including restrictions on duplicate funding for the same purpose.
