This is a highly technical metrology role supporting the inspection of precision aerospace and defense hardware. You will develop, validate, optimize, and maintain sophisticated CMM programs for production, development, and qualification activities. The role combines advanced dimensional inspection expertise with close collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. You will help identify dimensional issues, investigate root causes, and strengthen measurement processes and product quality. Your work will directly support the reliability and performance of complex propulsion and motion-control components. The environment is hands-on, fast-paced, and quality-driven, with opportunities to mentor technicians and improve site-wide programming practices. This is an onsite position in Elkton, Maryland , with no remote work available.

Develop, optimize, validate, and maintain complex CMM programs for precision components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements to establish effective inspection strategies and measurement plans. Set up and qualify CMM fixtures, probes, and measurement routines, supporting first-article, in-process, and final inspections. Analyze measurement data and prepare accurate, concise inspection reports for Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and other internal stakeholders. Partner with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering to resolve dimensional issues, tolerance stack-ups, and nonconformances. Lead root-cause analysis and problem-solving activities involving dimensional nonconformance and measurement-system issues, implementing corrective actions as appropriate. Support process capability studies, gage R&R activities, SPC, and other measurement-system analyses to improve inspection reliability and repeatability. Establish and continuously improve CMM programming standards, templates, procedures, and best practices. Train and mentor technicians and junior programmers on CMM operation, programming fundamentals, and interpretation of inspection results. Perform manual dimensional inspections using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, profilometers, durometers, and visual inspection methods. Ensure inspection and programming activities comply with applicable procedures, quality requirements, customer expectations, and standards such as AS9100. Collaborate with shop-floor personnel, engineers, program teams, and customers on complex dimensional and quality challenges. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related STEM discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with 0+ years of relevant experience or a high school diploma/GED with 6+ years of relevant dimensional inspection or CMM programming experience. Significant hands-on experience programming and operating coordinate measuring machines using PC-DMIS or equivalent CMM software. Strong knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5, with demonstrated ability to apply dimensional requirements to complex aerospace or defense hardware. Experience interpreting engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and technical specifications to develop inspection plans. Experience working in production or development manufacturing environments involving precision metallic and/or non-metallic components. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to prepare technical reports and presentations. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance , for which U.S. citizenship is required. Availability to provide occasional off-shift or weekend support when required by production or program needs. Preferred experience in aerospace, defense, energetics, propulsion, or motion-control manufacturing. Preferred advanced PC-DMIS expertise, including looping, conditional logic, automation, and offline programming from CAD models. Familiarity with additional metrology technologies such as laser trackers, portable CMM arms, optical measurement systems, and surface-finish measurement tools. Experience with SPC, process capability analysis, and data-driven continuous improvement. Experience working within AS9100 or a comparable quality-management system. Strong communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional efforts involving complex quality issues. Benefits Base salary range of $75,500–$125,900 per year , depending on experience, education, skills, responsibilities, and market conditions.
