The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO takes pride in recruiting, developing and retaining highly talented individuals. Our co-op programs give young professionals the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of New York electricity markets, bulk electricity systems and how we plan for New York State’s energy future. The NYISO is seeking a Business Process Improvement Co-Op to support initiatives focused on modernizing business processes and improving operational efficiency. The student will participate in all phases of process improvement work, including documenting current processes, defining future-state workflows, completing gap analyses, evaluating technology solutions, and supporting implementation. Initial assignments may include supporting a new project prioritization and portfolio management solution and evaluating Microsoft 365 capabilities that could improve existing business processes. Additional assignments may be identified as organizational priorities evolve. This opportunity provides practical experience in business analysis, process management, technology enablement, change management, and stakeholder engagement.   Responsibilities Document and map current-state business processes. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, challenges, and desired outcomes. Help define future-state processes that improve efficiency and user experience. Perform gap analyses to identify changes needed to move from current-state to future-state processes. Evaluate workflows and recommend opportunities for process redesign or technology enablement. Support the implementation of a project prioritization and portfolio management solution. Assist with the development of supporting processes, documentation, and governance practices. Evaluate Microsoft 365 capabilities that may streamline or improve business workflows. Prepare process maps, requirements, reports, presentations, and training materials. Support system or process testing and document results. Assist with change management, implementation, and end-user training activities. Collaborate with Product and Project Management, Information Technology, and business stakeholders. Qualifications Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field. Interest in business analysis, process improvement, project management, or technology implementation. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to gather information and translate business needs into clear documentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with stakeholders across technical and business functions. Attention to detail and willingness to learn unfamiliar processes or technologies. Experience with process mapping or workflow management tools is helpful but not required. Familiarity with project management methodologies is a plus. Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively in a collaborative environment.   The NYISO offers the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely, providing our employees with an enhanced work life balance. This internship will be a hybrid program, with the expectation that employees will be local to the Albany, NY area.
