Overview
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission will open 2027–2028 Master's Scholarship applications on 8 September 2026 for eligible Commonwealth candidates pursuing a one-year taught master's degree in the UK.
Complete scholarship details
Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the agency-nominated Commonwealth Master's Scholarship supports one-year full-time taught master's study at an approved UK university. Current financial assistance includes approved return airfare, full approved tuition fees, a living stipend of £1,712 per month or £2,000 per month at universities in the London metropolitan area at current rates, and a study-travel grant. Applicants must apply in CSC Central and also follow the process of an eligible nominating agency or approved NGO/charitable nominator; nominators may set earlier local deadlines.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be citizens of, or hold qualifying refugee/British Protected Person status connected to, an eligible Commonwealth country; be permanently resident in an eligible country; be available to begin UK study in September 2027; normally hold at least an upper-second-class first degree or a lower-second-class degree plus a relevant postgraduate qualification; be unable to afford UK study without the scholarship; and provide all required documentation. The CSC does not normally fund a second Master's degree and does not fund MBA degrees under this program.
Tips for this scholarship
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check the deadline and eligibility rules of your national nominating agency or approved nominator because it may close before the CSC deadline.
- Prepare transcripts and referee documents before the CSC system opens.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified on the CSC's current 2027/28 Master's Scholarship page. Applications open 8 September 2026 and the CSC deadline is 16:00 BST on 20 October 2026, normalized to 15:00 UTC. Applicants must also apply to a nominator, which may impose an earlier deadline. Funding figures are quoted by CSC at current levels and may change under award conditions.
