Overview
The DAAD Hilde Domin Programme supports at-risk students pursuing a master's degree and doctoral candidates from eligible countries worldwide so they can begin or complete study or research at a higher education institution in Germany. Candidates cannot apply directly and must first be nominated by an eligible Germany-based institution or organization.

For the planned winter semester 2027/28 intake, nominations are accepted until 15 September 2026. Candidates who pass DAAD's initial plausibility check are invited to apply through the DAAD portal from 17 September to 15 October 2026. Funding normally lasts up to 24 months for a master's degree and up to 48 months for a doctorate. DAAD states current monthly scholarship payments of EUR 992 for master's students and EUR 1,400 for doctoral candidates, plus health, accident and personal liability insurance, a travel allowance, possible preparatory German-language training and additional financial benefits.
Eligibility requirements
The target group is students aiming for a master's degree and doctoral candidates who are at risk of being denied educational or other rights in their country of origin. Eligible nominees must meet the programme's risk and academic requirements, have qualifications permitting admission to the intended German higher-education level, and normally may not already be residing in Germany or the European Union at nomination. German or English proficiency at approximately B2 level is expected by the nomination deadline.
