Overview
Portugal’s means-tested higher-education study grant for eligible students in 2026–2027, with the standard application window running through 2 October 2026.
Complete grant details
For academic year 2026–2027, DGES states that the standard application period runs from 14 August through 2 October 2026. If enrolment occurs before 2 October, an application may be made within 20 working days after enrolment even when that falls later. DGES also permits applications from 3 October through 31 May, but any award is proportional to the period remaining in the academic year. The grant is non-repayable social-action support and the amount depends on the statutory household/resources calculation; no universal award amount is stated.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must meet the current Portuguese higher-education social-action scholarship rules and be enrolled in an eligible higher-education course covered by the DGES grant system. The current rules cover eligible higher professional technical courses, bachelor’s degrees, integrated master’s/master’s study and certain professional internships. Doctoral study is not covered by this DGES route.
Tips for this grant
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified against the current DGES deadline FAQ and BeOn portal. DGES publishes a specific 2026–2027 exception of 14 August–2 October; this specific cycle notice is used instead of the older generic June–September FAQ wording. Only the standard-window date is stored; 20-working-day enrolment exceptions and proportional late applications through 31 May are explained in the details.
