Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Accounting based in United States. As Director, Accounting, you will own the day-to-day accounting and treasury operations that support accurate, reliable, and audit-ready financial reporting. Reporting to the Controller, you will lead the month-end close, multi-entity consolidation, reconciliations, and internal controls. You will also serve as the primary liaison for external financial statement audits and collaborate closely with tax advisors and Treasury. A key focus will be improving processes and introducing AI-enabled workflows across accounting operations. You will build and develop a small, high-performing team while remaining hands-on as a player-coach. This is a high-impact opportunity to strengthen the financial foundation of a growing organization and help prepare its accounting function for future IPO-readiness demands.
Lead the month-end close process from pre-close preparation through balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis, continuously improving efficiency and shortening the close calendar. Own monthly consolidation across a multi-entity structure, ensuring accurate intercompany eliminations and strong compliance with GAAP. Direct the annual financial statement audit as the primary external liaison, managing the PBC process and keeping the full audit lifecycle on schedule. Partner with external tax advisors and Treasury on settlement accounting, restricted cash classifications, reserve calculations, and related accounting matters. Strengthen internal controls, audit readiness, and accounting processes in line with the needs of a growing organization and future IPO-readiness requirements. Introduce and develop AI-enabled workflows for journal entries, reconciliations, variance reporting, and other accounting activities to improve speed, accuracy, and insight. Build, develop, and mentor a small, high-performing accounting team while remaining actively involved in the work as a player-coach. Lead meaningful process and culture changes while maintaining trust, collaboration, and accountability across the accounting function. Requirements: Active CPA license and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including at least 5 years leading teams. Deep, hands-on experience managing month-end close, financial consolidation, and GAAP compliance within a multi-entity organization. Proven experience leading external financial statement audits end-to-end, including preparation and management of PBC requests. Working knowledge of the COSO framework and PCAOB standards related to internal control over financial reporting, with experience designing and testing internal controls. Proficiency with NetSuite or a comparable enterprise ERP and advanced Excel skills. Strong ability to identify operational friction, improve accounting processes, and turn complex reconciliations into clear and reliable financial information. Proven ability to lead teams through significant process and cultural change while maintaining engagement and trust. Openness to using AI and automation to improve accounting workflows and the ability to help teams adopt new technologies effectively. Experience in financial services, consumer lending, credit card issuing or servicing, sponsor bank models, card networks, or payment processors is preferred. Experience with Snowflake, SQL, or business intelligence tools such as Tableau is preferred. A demonstrated track record of implementing AI or automation within accounting workflows is preferred. Benefits: Annual full-time starting base salary of $158,000–$213,000. Eligibility for annual incentive compensation. Eligibility to participate in equity programs. Paid time off. 401(k) match. Monthly wellness stipend. Health, dental, and vision insurance options. Disability coverage. Paid parental leave. Flexible spending accounts for childcare and healthcare. Life insurance. Remote-first work environment.
