Provides strategic and operational leadership for campus maintenance, facilities projects, fleet services, vehicle and heavy-equipment maintenance, dispatch, generators, and fuel operations. Directs preventive and corrective maintenance programs, capital and renovation project delivery, transportation coordination, regulatory and safety compliance, resource planning, and departmental staff performance to ensure facilities and transportation assets remain safe, reliable, compliant, and ready to support Boys Ranch programs and residential operations.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Regularly reviews employee’s performance and takes corrective action when necessary. Hires the best people available. Knowledgeable of employee’s career goals and actively seeks development opportunities. Encourages and rewards hard work.

  • Creates an understanding of the Organizational Strategic Plan and communicates a clear link between team goals and the Strategic Plan.

  • Encourages employees to create innovative solutions to problems.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains regular, dependable attendance and ensures operational continuity across facilities and transportation services.
  • Directs preventive, routine, and corrective maintenance programs for campus buildings, systems, vehicles, generators, and heavy equipment.
  • Ensures facilities, shops, equipment, fuel systems, and vehicles are safe, compliant, well-maintained, organized, and ready for use.
  • Oversees all building maintenance trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, roofing, HVAC coordination, appliance repair, and related services.
  • Provides leadership for construction, renovation, major repair, and capital improvement projects from planning and budgeting through closeout and warranty management.
  • Manages contractors, architects, engineers, and internal trades to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, codes, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinates project scheduling, communications, utility interruptions, phased occupancy, transportation impacts, and other operational considerations to minimize disruption.
  • Oversees fleet operations, including vehicle dispatch, transportation scheduling, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and readiness of vehicles and generators.
  • Manages maintenance requests, inventories, records, and assets; prioritizes timely, cost-effective service delivery while providing training, supervision, and positive role modeling for residents involved in approved activities.

Requirements

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in business, facilities management, construction management, engineering, operations, or a related field is preferred.

  2. A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required.

  3. Vocational, trade, or technical education in construction, building systems, motor vehicle or heavy-equipment repair, or a related field is preferred.

  4. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, fleet operations, construction project management, transportation services, or a related operational field is required.

  5. A minimum of three years of staff supervision or management experience is required.

  6. Experience managing capital projects, contractors, budgets, preventive maintenance programs, fleet safety, and regulatory compliance is preferred.

  7. Working knowledge of building trades, vehicle and heavy-equipment operations, workplace safety, and maintenance planning is required.

  8. Competency in Microsoft Office and other computer-based maintenance, fleet, reporting, or business applications is required.

  9. Exceptional leadership, communication, time-management, judgment, organization, and detail-orientation skills are required.

  10. Ability to respond to urgent operational needs and provide on-call leadership as required.

  11. Ability to perform or oversee work that may involve bending, lifting, grasping, pushing or pulling, and prolonged sitting or standing, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  12. Must be at least 21 years of age.

  13. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.

  14. Must be available for travel as needed.
