Full job description
This position is listed platforms, tools, and shared services that enable engineering teams to deliver software faster and more reliably on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Software Engineering, Platform Services based in United States. This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity focused on building the platforms, tools, and shared services that enable engineering teams to deliver software faster and more reliably. You will lead the modernization of developer tooling, engineering practices, and reusable services across a growing technology organization. A major focus will be defining and scaling AI-assisted and specification-driven software development, with appropriate standards, evaluation, and guardrails. You will own the developer experience, from development environments and golden-path templates to shared services, automation, and engineering productivity. The role combines strategic vision with operational accountability, including service reliability, adoption, security, and performance. You will build high-performing engineering teams, develop leaders, and create a culture centered on ownership, collaboration, quality, and measurable outcomes. This is an opportunity to shape foundational technology capabilities that can significantly accelerate engineering velocity and business growth.
Define the strategy, roadmap, and operating model for the Platform Services organization, aligning platform investments with business priorities, engineering needs, budget constraints, and long-term growth. Lead and develop multiple engineering teams responsible for internal developer platforms, tooling, templates, shared services, and foundational capabilities used across product teams. Establish the organization’s approach to AI-assisted and specification-driven development, including coding assistants, agent development frameworks, evaluation practices, and security and quality guardrails. Build and maintain golden-path templates, scaffolds, frameworks, and reference implementations that make recommended engineering practices easy to adopt and scale. Own the developer experience and inner-loop tooling, including development environments, build and test performance, environment provisioning, and automation. Deliver and operate shared engineering services, ensuring appropriate availability, performance, service-level objectives, support models, incident response, and on-call coverage. Drive adoption of platform capabilities across product teams, creating an experience that is fast, reliable, secure, and efficient while making the supported path the default path. Partner with teams responsible for delivery pipelines, cloud infrastructure, runtime platforms, security, and other technology capabilities to ensure effective integration and operational support. Establish and communicate metrics covering engineering productivity, platform adoption, service performance, project progress, and the business impact of platform investments. Evaluate build, buy, and open-source alternatives while considering long-term operating costs, scalability, security, and organizational capabilities. Consolidate duplicated engineering capabilities into centralized, supported platforms, managing migrations, decommissioning activities, and organizational change. Ensure engineering tooling and shared services meet security, privacy, compliance, audit, and corporate requirements. Recruit, develop, coach, and retain engineering leaders and high-performing technical talent while building a diverse, collaborative, and outcome-oriented organization. Set clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, address performance issues, recognize contributions, and create opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. Communicate technical strategy, organizational priorities, risks, progress, and complex technology decisions effectively with senior and executive stakeholders. Foster a culture of engineering excellence, customer empathy, ownership, automation, continuous improvement, and strong execution. Requirements Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline; an MBA is preferred. 10+ years of experience in highly technical software development, platform engineering, enterprise services, or related roles within large organizations or innovative technology environments. 5+ years of experience in supervisory, consulting, or technical leadership roles, with demonstrated success managing multiple engineering teams. Proven track record delivering internal developer tooling, developer platforms, or shared engineering services that achieved adoption across multiple engineering teams. Experience leading AI-assisted software development initiatives at scale, including coding assistants, agentic development workflows, evaluation approaches, and safeguards for AI-generated code. Demonstrated experience owning production services, including service-level objectives, on-call models, operational support, incident response, and reliability management. Proven ability to consolidate duplicated technology capabilities into centralized platforms, including migration, adoption, and decommissioning activities. Strong knowledge of modern developer tooling and engineering practices, including source control, code review, continuous integration, containers, infrastructure as code, and developer portals or service catalogs. Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate business objectives into technical strategies, roadmaps, priorities, and measurable outcomes. Experience using data to guide decisions and measure engineering productivity, platform adoption, service performance, and organizational effectiveness. Strong executive presence, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to audiences at all organizational levels. Experience building collaborative, ambitious, high-performing engineering teams and developing technical leaders. Comfortable operating in environments where processes may be incomplete or ineffective, with the judgment and initiative to establish, improve, or replace them. Strong automation mindset and commitment to reducing manual effort through scalable technology and repeatable processes. Preferred experience with agent development frameworks, model access layers, or other AI platform capabilities. Experience working in a regulated industry or closely with security, audit, compliance, and risk functions is advantageous. Familiarity with financial services, loan origination systems, web applications, or the automotive industry is a plus. Benefits Competitive base salary of $208,761–$306,182 , depending on skills, experience, education, industry background, and other factors. Eligibility for an annual variable bonus consisting of cash and equity, typically ranging from 20%–60% , based on individual performance. Potential geographic premium for eligible candidates residing in major metropolitan areas including San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Fully remote work, with occasional planned travel to the assigned Southfield, Michigan office. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. 401(k) plan with company matching. Generous paid time off and holidays, with up to 27.5 total days during the first full year of employment. Parental leave and adoption assistance. Tuition reimbursement and ongoing professional development opportunities. Company-provided technology packages. Flexible work options and an emphasis on work-life balance. Additional employee benefits and programs designed to support personal and professional well-being. Opportunities for career growth, internal mobility, leadership development, and continuous learning. Collaborative, inclusive, and forward-thinking work environment.
