Electrical Engineer (Power Generation) - Memphis

ABOUT THE ROLE: We are seeking exceptional Electrical Engineers to join our growing team in Memphis and help design, build, and optimize on-site power generation for SpaceXAI's high-density AI supercomputing facilities. This role owns plant electrical systems for gas turbine generation — from generator, excitation, and synchronization through 34.5 kV collect/export, protection, e-houses, blackstart, and switching. You will collaborate across electrical, mechanical, power systems, and construction teams to deliver reliable, massive-scale generation. This is a full-time, onsite role based in the Memphis region. RESPONSIBILITIES: Own plant electrical systems for on-site gas turbine generation supporting AI superclusters, including generators, excitation, synchronization, auxiliaries, and balance-of-plant electrical Design and engineer 34.5 kV collect and export systems, protection and control, e-houses, blackstart capability, and related medium-voltage infrastructure Serve as switching authority for plant electrical systems, including switching procedures, isolation, clearance, and energization Develop single-line diagrams, protection & control schematics, relay settings, and interconnection designs Perform detailed power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, transient stability, harmonics) using ETAP, PSS/E, or equivalent tools Integrate generation with plant systems, 34.5 kV collect/export, and downstream data center loads Ensure compliance with relevant standards (NERC, ERCOT, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, UL) and support permitting and utility coordination Support equipment specification, vendor selection, factory testing, site commissioning, and energization Conduct failure mode analysis (FMEA), root cause investigations, and reliability modeling to achieve extreme uptime targets Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new facility builds, capacity expansions, and continuous improvement of power standard BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics or electrical engineering technology PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Experience with gas turbine generators, excitation, synchronization, islanded operation, and blackstart Experience owning plant electrical systems, including 34.5 kV collect/export, protection, e-houses, and switching authority Background with data centers, hyperscale facilities, or large on-site power infrastructure (>50 MW) Knowledge of ERCOT, NERC reliability standards, and utility interconnection processes Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and operations of power systems Track record of innovation or high-impact delivery in power infrastructure projects ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Perform hands-on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters or at heights Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed; flexibility required Remain focused while working in hazardous environments, while wearing appropriate PPE Must be able to lift up to 25lbs unassisted Travel up to 50% to other locations Valid driver’s license SpaceXAI is an equal opportunity employer.
