About Menlo Menlo Research is an Applied R&D lab building Asimov, an open-source humanoid robot platform, and the full software stack that powers it. Our mission is to make humanoid labor economically viable -- turning software into physical labor at scale. We build across the full stack: hardware architecture, locomotion, autonomy, simulation, and infrastructure. We move fast, ship to real robots, and open-source everything we can. The Role As an Electrical Engineer, you will own the design, integration, and bring-up of the electronic systems that power Asimov. From power distribution to motor control to sensor integration, you will work across schematics, PCB layouts, harness design, and hardware debug -- ensuring every electrical decision holds up in the field and integrates cleanly with the broader mechanical and firmware stack. What You'll Do

  • Design and review schematics and PCB layouts for power distribution units, motor driver boards, and actuator control electronics
  • Integrate wiring harnesses, PCBA enclosures, and motor controllers into mechanical assemblies from the ground up
  • Lead bring-up of power systems, sensors, and actuator subassemblies; diagnose and resolve issues across multiple hardware revisions
  • Define and run electrical and system-level test protocols, analyze failure modes, and iterate based on test data
  • Work closely with firmware and controls teams to ensure electrical design choices support stable, low-latency control loops
  • Apply expertise in connector selection, grounding strategies, harness routing, and EMI suppression to ensure robust and field-reliable hardware
  • Contribute to Menlo's open-source design efforts, including PCB schematics and manufacturing documentation for the broader robotics community What You'll Bring
  • 3 or more years of hands-on electrical engineering experience on high-complexity electromechanical products
  • Solid understanding of electrical and electronic systems, including motor drivers, sensors, and embedded hardware integration
  • Deep familiarity with low-voltage (under 60V) DC power systems, DC-DC converters, MOSFET gate drivers, current-sense amplifiers, and passive network design
  • Proficiency using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN/UART sniffers for in-depth hardware debug
  • Expertise in connector selection, grounding strategies, harness routing, and EMI suppression techniques
  • Strong communication skills to drive alignment across firmware teams, mechanical engineers, and leadership Bonus points for:
  • Experience with bipedal or humanoid robot hardware or legged locomotion platforms
  • Familiarity with CAN bus, motor controllers, and how electrical design choices affect firmware and control integration
  • Scripting experience in Python for hardware automation and data analysis
  • Familiarity with sim-to-real workflows and how hardware decisions affect locomotion policy training and transfer Why Join Menlo?
