Engineering Manager - SRE & Platform

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager - SRE & Platform based in Switzerland. This role combines engineering leadership, platform ownership and hands-on reliability work within a fast-growing global SaaS environment. You will lead a team of 6–8 engineers while owning the infrastructure, security and developer tooling that enable teams to ship reliably. The position spans cloud and hybrid infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, incident management, security and developer experience. You will remain technically involved through architecture decisions, infrastructure code reviews and participation in 24/7 on-call operations. You will also shape how the engineering team works by establishing clear standards, self-service workflows and scalable delivery practices. Alongside technical ownership, you will hire, coach and develop engineers while creating an environment of autonomy and accountability. This is a fully remote opportunity for Europe-based candidates, with significant influence over platform strategy and engineering effectiveness.

Lead and develop a team of 6–8 platform and reliability engineers, providing technical direction, coaching and clear priorities. Design, build and operate infrastructure across cloud and hybrid environments, including networking, infrastructure-as-code, containerization and cost management. Own deployment pipelines, automation, feature flag systems and progressive delivery practices. Define and maintain monitoring standards covering logging, metrics and alerting. Establish service levels and lead incident response and management activities. Participate directly in 24/7 on-call operations as an engineer and remain close to production reliability. Own the platform security framework, including vulnerability management, patching and framework and dependency upgrades. Ensure adherence to compliance requirements through audit logging, data residency controls and appropriate access management. Improve developer experience through internal tooling, self-service workflows and standardized delivery paths. Partner closely with software engineering and product teams to identify technical constraints early, align priorities and keep delivery moving. Own hiring activities for the team, including identifying role requirements, conducting and calibrating interviews and making final hiring recommendations. Run the performance management cycle, including setting expectations, providing regular feedback, conducting formal reviews and addressing underperformance. Create individualized career development paths, including growth plans, promotion cases and mentorship. Empower engineers to own their technical domains and make decisions with appropriate autonomy. Requirements: Experience working both as an engineer and people manager, or equivalent experience as a senior/staff engineer with significant mentoring and leadership responsibilities. Hands-on platform engineering or DevOps experience in production-scale environments, including CI/CD, cloud services, monitoring and infrastructure-as-code. Proven experience owning production reliability, including on-call operations, incident response and service-level objectives. Experience improving developer experience through internal tooling, self-service platforms or standardized engineering workflows. 3+ years of direct engineering management experience, with ownership of hiring, performance management and career development. Strong technical judgment and the ability to remain hands-on while providing direction and support to experienced engineers. Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build trust through partnership rather than control. Experience in a fast-growing, global SaaS environment is highly desirable. Knowledge of network engineering and DNS administration is a plus. Experience with feature-flag-based deployments is a plus. Security engineering experience, including vulnerability management and framework or dependency upgrade programs, is beneficial. Experience working in regulated industries is an advantage.
