About the Company

Full job description

About the Company    General Matter is enriching uranium in America.   Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.    Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.   Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.   We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.    We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.   Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.   About This Role   As an EH&S Engineer, you will serve as a subject matter expert in environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) programs supporting the development of advanced enrichment technologies and pilot-scale operations. You will play a key role in developing and implementing practical, fit-for-purpose programs to manage chemical, radiological, and industrial hazards while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence.   Responsibilities:   Support the Head of EH&S in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's EH&S management system.   Perform and document hazard analyses for R&D activities and pilot-scale operations.   Partner with engineering, operations, and quality teams to ensure safe facility design, equipment installation, and commissioning.   Lead and participate in incident investigations, audits, inspections, and corrective action programs.   Develop and deliver EH&S training programs and materials.   Conduct routine EH&S audits, inspections, and compliance assessments.   Maintain safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), including inventory management and calibration activities.   Develop Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and other safety procedures.   Manage hazardous waste handling and disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements.   Foster a culture of safety ownership and continuous improvement across a multidisciplinary team.   Support regulatory compliance activities involving OSHA, NRC, DOE, and environmental requirements, as applicable.   Basic Qualifications:   Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Health Physics, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.   5+ years of experience in an occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or EH&S role, preferably within nuclear, chemical, manufacturing, or R&D-intensive environments.   Working knowledge of applicable regulations and standards, including OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 10 CFR 20, 10 CFR 70, and DOE/NRC EH&S requirements.   Demonstrated ability to identify occupational health and safety risks and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.   Experience conducting hazard assessments, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.   Strong technical writing and documentation skills, including procedure development and compliance reporting.   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.   Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.   Preferred Qualifications   Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHP, CHMM, or equivalent.   Experience supporting radiological operations, nuclear facilities, or pilot-scale process development.   Experience with hazardous materials management, industrial hygiene monitoring, and emergency preparedness programs.   Equal Opportunity Employer    General Matter is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with General Matter is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.    Compensation and Benefits   The base salary range for this role is s $100,000–$170,000  annually.    Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. Please note that the stated salary range is an estimate and may be adjusted based on market conditions, business needs, or other factors. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
