Complete fellowship details

Fellowships begin 1 September 2027 and normally run for 12 or 24 months depending on the academic unit. The current basic grant is €2,500 per month, with family allowance where eligible, up to €1,500 per year in research expenses, EUI medical coverage and travel reimbursement under the programme rules. The application deadline is 16 October 2026 at 14:00 CEST.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants of any nationality must have received or submitted their PhD between 1 September 2022 and 1 September 2027. If the thesis has been submitted but not yet defended, the defence must take place no later than 31 December 2027. Applicants must meet the relevant EUI department's research fit and language requirements; EUI early-stage researchers are not eligible under the published conditions.

Tips for this fellowship

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

Verification notes
