Role Overview:
Bardel is looking for a 2D Storyboard Director to lead the visual storytelling for an original anime-inspired project, translating a web comic into dynamic storyboards and animatics for a proof-of-concept trailer and future animated series. This role establishes the project's cinematic language, guides the storyboard team, and works closely with creative leadership to bring the story to life.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the storyboard team from concept through animatic delivery.
- Translate scripts and web comic panels into compelling, cinematic storyboards that enhance pacing, emotion, action, and character performance.
- Define the project's visual storytelling style, including staging, composition, camera language, and shot continuity.
- Review storyboards and animatics, providing clear, actionable creative feedback.
- Collaborate with the Animation Director, Producer, and other department leads to ensure a unified creative vision.
- Balance creative ambition with production goals, identifying risks and helping the team deliver on schedule.
- Help establish storyboard workflows, visual standards, and documentation that can scale into series production.
Requirements
What You’ll Bring:
- Significant storyboard experience on animated productions, with experience directing or leading storyboard teams preferred.
- Strong understanding of cinematic storytelling, shot composition, camera movement, pacing, and character acting.
- Ability to adapt graphic storytelling from comics or graphic novels into engaging animated sequences.
- Experience creating and reviewing storyboards and animatics using Storyboard Pro or similar software.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor artists and provide clear creative direction.
- Comfortable collaborating in an evolving development environment where ideas continue to be refined.
- Passion for anime-inspired storytelling and visual direction, with an understanding of the pacing, cinematography, and visual language commonly found in the genre.
Benefits
Pay Range: CAD $2000 - $2200 per week
This salary range provided reflects our current expectations for these roles as of this posting’s date. Your final salary offer will consider various key factors, including your education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographical location, as well as the needs and requirements of the business.
