Field Service Technician Level I

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The purpose of the Field Service Technician Level I role is to support the start-up, commissioning, installation, testing, and troubleshooting of IEM equipment under the guidance of experienced Field Service personnel. This role is intended for individuals with mechanical, electrical, or technical aptitude who are eager to learn, work hands-on, and develop within a field service environment. Comprehensive training, mentoring, and on-the-job learning are provided to support technical growth and progression within the Field Service career path. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Support the start-up and commissioning of switchboards, control panels, and power products under the direction of experienced Field Service personnel. •Assist with the installation and modification of electrical or mechanical components and subassemblies, which may include panelboard interiors, circuit breakers, bus bar, subpanels, control components, power cabling, and control wiring. •Perform basic testing of modified assemblies in accordance with established procedures and under appropriate guidance. •Assist with basic troubleshooting of electrical circuits and networking equipment. •Identify and escalate product, commissioning, or customer-site issues to Field Service Leads, Project Managers, manufacturing teams, or management, as appropriate •Perform other duties as assigned by management. COMPETENCIES: •Technical Aptitude: Demonstrates the ability and willingness to learn electrical, mechanical, and field service concepts, including basic equipment start-up, commissioning, installation, testing, and troubleshooting. •Safety Awareness: Follows company, customer site, and industry safety requirements, including proper use of PPE, tools, equipment, and applicable safe work practices. •Problem-Solving: Uses sound judgment to identify basic technical issues, ask appropriate questions, and support troubleshooting and resolution under guidance from more experienced technicians or leadership. •Attention to Detail: Accurately follows work instructions, wiring diagrams, drawings, checklists, and documentation requirements to support quality work and reduce errors. •Communication: Communicates clearly and professionally with team members, leads, managers, project teams, and customers while providing updates, asking questions, and escalating concerns when needed. •Teamwork and Collaboration: Works effectively with other technicians, Field Service Leads, project teams, and internal support groups to complete assigned work and support customer needs. •Customer Focus: Maintains professionalism while working at customer sites and supports a positive customer experience through responsiveness, reliability, and respectful communication. •Adaptability and Willingness to Learn: Demonstrates a positive attitude toward training, feedback, changing priorities, travel requirements, and hands-on learning in a field service environment. •Organization and Dependability: Manages assigned tasks, tools, documentation, and follow-up items responsibly while maintaining punctuality, reliability, and accountability for assigned work. •Quality of Work: Takes pride in completing work accurately, safely, and in accordance with IEM standards, customer requirements, and project expectations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: •Associate degree, vocational training, military experience, or equivalent experience in power distribution systems, including switchgear, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, or related equipment commissioning activities preferred. •0–2 years of related electrical, mechanical, technical, manufacturing, construction, or field service experience preferred. •Basic electrical, mechanical, or technical aptitude required. •Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, work instructions, and technical documentation. •Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment. •Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills required. •Strong teamwork and communication skills required. •Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after appropriate training. •Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities required. PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL: Physical Demands: Activities: Sitting – 20% Walking/Standing – 80% Lifting: Must be able to bend, lift, and carry equipment and materials up to 50lbs. Vision: Long periods of close work on technical equipment, drawings, and computer screens. Travel: Occasional travel (up to 75%) may be required to IEM regional field offices and vendor sites. Mental Demands: Ability to interpret technical information, analyze issues, prioritize multiple tasks, solve problems in the field, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced service environment.
