Financial Controller

This is a fully remote leadership opportunity overseeing complex financial operations across a diverse portfolio of clients. You’ll serve as an outsourced Controller, providing financial guidance, operational oversight, and strategic insight to business owners and finance teams. The role combines high-level reporting and analysis with hands-on accounting leadership, process improvement, and client relationship management. You’ll lead month-end close activities, review financial statements, strengthen controls, and support audit and tax readiness. You’ll also coach accounting professionals and help establish scalable workflows, systems, and technology integrations. Serve as the outsourced Financial Controller for multiple clients, acting as a trusted financial advisor and primary point of contact for business owners, internal finance teams, auditors, and tax professionals. Oversee accounting operations across the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and revenue recognition. Lead and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Prepare and review financial statements, conduct variance analysis, and translate financial results into clear, actionable insights for clients. Apply GAAP, lease accounting, revenue recognition, and internal-control principles across complex client environments. Maintain audit-ready financial records, documentation, and controls while coordinating with external audit, tax, and compliance partners. Lead and coach Account Managers and accounting professionals by delegating complex assignments, reviewing deliverables, and developing advanced accounting capabilities. Identify opportunities to improve accounting quality, efficiency, consistency, and scalability across client portfolios. Evaluate and implement accounting technologies, software integrations, and client-specific workflows to improve operational effectiveness. Adapt to new client systems and technologies, designing practical workflows that integrate effectively with existing accounting processes. Support continuous process improvement and contribute to consistent, scalable accounting practices across the organization. Manage competing client priorities with sound judgment, clear communication, persistence, and a service-oriented approach. Requirements 7+ years of accounting and finance experience, including significant experience overseeing complex financial operations and month-end close processes. Demonstrated experience managing multiple clients or entities remotely, ideally in a cloud-accounting, outsourced accounting, CPA firm, or public accounting environment. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced accounting education is preferred. CPA firm or public accounting experience is strongly preferred. Strong expertise in financial reporting, GAAP, lease accounting, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and variance analysis. Proven experience overseeing general ledger, AP/AR, internal controls, audit readiness, and financial documentation. Experience preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online and familiarity with other cloud accounting and financial platforms. Experience with accounting technologies such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Acumatica, Microsoft Dynamics, or related systems is valuable. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills, with a consistent focus on accuracy and quality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when working with business owners, finance teams, auditors, and tax professionals remotely. Demonstrated delegation, coaching, and mentoring abilities, with a willingness to develop other accounting professionals. Resourceful and adaptable, with the ability to learn unfamiliar client systems and solve complex accounting challenges independently. Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, client-focused environment while maintaining professionalism and sound accounting judgment. Ability to work reliably from a home environment with strong internet connectivity and availability during standard professional hours, five days per week.
