ABOUT THE ROLE This is a founding Forward Deployed Engineer role at an early-stage data infrastructure startup, sitting at the intersection of customer success and engineering. You will be the direct link between the company's largest customers and its product team, owning complex technical challenges end-to-end while building and leading a function from the ground up. WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Work directly with key customers to understand and solve their web scraping and data extraction challenges.
- Own customer requests from intake to delivery, ensuring high-quality, satisfying outcomes.
- Manage and support scraping engineers who report to you as they build and maintain data pipelines.
- Translate frontline customer context into actionable product feedback and roadmap input for the engineering team.
- Define, document, and scale the Forward Deployed Engineer function as the company grows. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 3 or more years of professional engineering experience with a strong track record of shipping quality software systems.
- 1 or more years of direct customer-facing technical work, such as solutions engineering, technical account management, or sales engineering.
- Hands-on experience building, debugging, and maintaining web scraping infrastructure or data extraction systems at scale.
- Proficiency with scraping frameworks and tools such as Selenium, Puppeteer, BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, or similar.
- Familiarity with bot detection evasion, request infrastructure, or anti-scraping mitigation techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to manage or mentor engineers, and a desire to grow into engineering management.
- Experience owning customer problems end-to-end and turning customer needs into technical and product requirements.
- Proven track record of improving customer satisfaction metrics or accelerating sales velocity through technical delivery.
- Background working at an early-stage or growth-stage startup (Series A or earlier preferred).
- Experience with financial services customers or data-driven decision makers such as investment analysts or heads of data is a plus.
- Familiarity with data quality assurance, validation pipelines, or structured data delivery is a plus. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary: $140,000 to $160,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role. LOCATION On-site in New York City, NY. Candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to NYC.
