Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Founding Engineer (Data Platform) based in Brazil. This is a founding-level engineering opportunity to build a healthcare data platform from the ground up for hospitals and healthcare providers across Latin America. You will design the core data architecture that transforms millions of clinical events into trusted, connected, and standardized information. The role combines high-volume event processing, lakehouse architecture, healthcare data standards, APIs, and scalable database engineering. You will have significant ownership over the platform architecture while remaining deeply hands-on and shipping production code. Close collaboration with hospital IT teams will give you direct exposure to complex legacy infrastructure and real-world integration challenges. You will work in a fast-growing, AI-focused environment where modern development practices and AI coding tools are used to accelerate delivery. This is an opportunity to shape foundational technology with meaningful impact on healthcare data interoperability across the region.

Data Platform Architecture: Design and build a high-volume, event-driven data platform from the ground up, establishing the architecture and technical foundations needed for long-term scale. Event Processing: Develop systems capable of ingesting and processing millions of clinical events through a robust lakehouse architecture. Healthcare Data Standardization: Transform and standardize clinical information into FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) format to enable consistent and connected healthcare data. Database Engineering: Build, operate, and maintain PostgreSQL and MongoDB systems capable of reliably handling millions of records in production. Hospital Integrations: Work directly with external hospital IT teams to understand technical requirements and integrate the platform with existing and legacy healthcare infrastructure. API Development: Design and build developer-facing public APIs that allow external clients to access and integrate with the platform's data capabilities. End-to-End Ownership: Own the technical stack across the full data lifecycle, from event ingestion and processing through data serving for external clients and internal analytics. Production Engineering: Remain hands-on in production development, delivering reliable, scalable code and taking ownership of the systems you build. AI-Assisted Development: Use AI coding tools as part of the daily engineering workflow to accelerate implementation, experimentation, and delivery. Requirements Engineering Experience: 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a current focus on individual-contributor work and shipping production software. Event-Driven Systems: Proven experience designing and implementing high-volume event-driven architectures, event buses, or comparable distributed data-processing patterns. Data at Scale: Professional production experience working with PostgreSQL and MongoDB at scale, including systems handling millions of records. Large-Scale Systems: Demonstrated experience building and operating heavy-data systems in production environments where reliability, scalability, and performance are critical. Technical Ownership: Ability to take significant architectural ownership while remaining deeply hands-on in implementation and delivery. Healthcare or Complex Integrations: Experience working with complex data environments, integrations, or legacy infrastructure is valuable for the challenges involved in connecting healthcare systems. Language Skills: Professional-level fluency in both Portuguese and English is required. Location: Based in Latin America, with candidates in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, or Chile particularly aligned with the role; exceptional candidates in Europe may be considered if they can work LATAM hours and travel occasionally. Individual Contributor Mindset: Must be a hands-on engineer actively shipping production code rather than someone who has recently transitioned into a purely managerial or director-level position. Collaboration: Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with external technical stakeholders, internal teams, and engineering partners. Adaptability: Comfortable working in a founding-stage environment where priorities evolve quickly and engineers have broad ownership and responsibility. Benefits Competitive Compensation: Annual salary of $95,000–$120,000 . Fully Remote: Work remotely from eligible locations in Latin America, providing flexibility regardless of your home city. Founding-Level Ownership: Take ownership of a foundational data platform and have substantial influence over its architecture, technology choices, and evolution. Healthcare Technology Impact: Build infrastructure that transforms clinical data and supports healthcare providers across Latin America. High-Scale Engineering: Work with millions of clinical events and production data systems requiring scalable, reliable engineering. End-to-End Scope: Gain broad technical ownership spanning event ingestion, data processing, databases, APIs, integrations, and analytics. Direct Customer Exposure: Collaborate directly with hospital IT teams and gain firsthand insight into complex technical requirements and integration challenges. AI-Enabled Development: Use modern AI coding tools as part of the everyday engineering workflow. International Environment: Work across a Latin American healthcare ecosystem with exposure to hospitals, healthcare providers, and technical stakeholders in multiple markets. Full-Time Opportunity: Join a full-time engineering role at a mid-senior professional level with significant technical ownership.
