Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Freight Audit & Billing Manager based in Switzerland. This remote role offers the opportunity to take end-to-end ownership of carrier and customer billing within a growing international package forwarding environment. You will play a key role in ensuring carrier charges are accurate, justified, properly disputed, and fully recovered or re-billed to customers. The position combines detailed financial analysis with process ownership, operational coordination, and systems improvement. As the role develops, you will take increasing responsibility for customer billing, collections, and billing accuracy. You will also help shape automated billing solutions by translating operational needs into clear requirements for software developers. Working closely with carrier teams, internal stakeholders, and a Billing Specialist, you will help build scalable, reliable, and efficient billing processes.
Audit incoming carrier invoices from providers such as FedEx, UPS, DHL Express, PostNL, and Deutsche Post, identifying surcharges, dimensional weight corrections, address corrections, duty and tax back-charges, and other inaccurate or unjustified charges. Dispute incorrect carrier charges, maintain detailed records of open disputes, follow up persistently, and ensure agreed credits are received. Ensure all legitimate carrier charges are accurately re-billed to the appropriate customers and monitor open billing items to prevent carrier costs from remaining uncollected. Take ownership of customer-side billing, including shipment and service invoicing, credits, refunds, dunning, and collection of outstanding customer balances. Manage day-to-day communication with carrier billing and account teams and prepare data and analysis to support carrier rate negotiations. Define requirements and priorities for the internal billing module and collaborate with software developers on specifications, testing, implementation, and rollout. Support the automation of invoice imports, audit rules, reconciliation processes, and customer re-billing to reduce manual work and spreadsheet dependency. Functionally guide the part-time Billing Specialist by establishing daily routines, answering questions, and reviewing the quality and accuracy of their work. Document billing processes and maintain clear operational procedures to support consistency and scalability. Prepare monthly reporting for the Managing Director covering audit coverage, recovered amounts, uncollected charges, dispute win rates, and outstanding items. Identify opportunities to replace manual checks and spreadsheet-based workflows with automated and more efficient billing processes. Requirements: 4+ years of experience in billing, freight audit, revenue operations, finance operations, or carrier/forwarder back-office functions. Experience in environments such as DHL, UPS, FedEx, TNT, freight forwarding, e-commerce, logistics, telecommunications, or shared service centers is preferred. Proven ability to own processes end to end, including building, improving, troubleshooting, and documenting billing or reconciliation workflows. Comfortable challenging charges with large organizations and following up persistently until discrepancies are resolved. Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, with experience handling large invoice datasets, CSV exports, reconciliations, and detailed financial analysis. Experience writing requirements for software developers or working closely with development teams, combined with a strong interest in systems and automation. Fluent written and spoken English, as communication with carriers and internal stakeholders is conducted in English. Highly structured and numbers-driven, with strong attention to detail and the ability to identify small discrepancies and incorrect charges accurately. Previous experience guiding or mentoring a junior colleague, or the maturity and ambition to take on functional leadership responsibilities. Benefits: Competitive salary. Fully remote position. Opportunity to take ownership of end-to-end carrier and customer billing processes. Significant involvement in billing automation, systems development, and process improvement. International working environment with exposure to major global carriers and logistics operations. Opportunity to develop functional leadership experience while guiding a Billing Specialist.
