The student grant supports full-time study or research at an accredited U.S. university. It can support all or part of a master’s degree or doctoral-level study and research across academic fields. The grant starts from NOK 200,000. The stay normally lasts at least one academic year, while eligible doctoral and specified five-year teacher-education candidates may undertake stays from four months. Applicants do not need U.S. admission at the time of the Fulbright application.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be Norwegian citizens and cannot be dual U.S.-Norwegian citizens. They must complete a bachelor’s degree by spring 2027 and plan to begin the U.S. stay between 1 August 2027 and May 2028. Applicants already studying or residing in the United States at the time covered by the official rules are not eligible. Selected grantees participate under the Fulbright J-1 exchange-visitor framework and its applicable conditions.
