Overview

Seven Fulbright U.S. Student Open Study/Research awards are available for individually designed research projects in Nepal for a 10-month grant period beginning in July 2027.

Complete fellowship details

The Nepal award runs approximately mid-July through mid-May. Applicants may propose research in any discipline and must identify a suitable host affiliation, with an affiliation letter required at application. Published benefits include a $1,400 monthly stipend that includes housing, international travel, accident and sickness benefits, support services, and one-time baggage, language, settling-in and research/materials allowances.

Eligibility requirements

Open under Fulbright U.S. Student rules to eligible U.S. citizens. Current students apply through their U.S. institution; non-student applicants generally must hold a bachelor's degree by the award start and not have a PhD, with relatively limited professional experience. For the Nepal award, residence in Nepal for six months or more in the year before the grant is not permitted and dual citizens of Nepal are not eligible. Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degree levels are accepted for the award, subject to general programme rules.

Tips for this fellowship

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
