Overview
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is accepting applications for two 2027–2028 Open Study/Research Awards in the United Arab Emirates, supporting 4–10 months of independent study or research with an approved UAE affiliation.
Complete opportunity details
Applicants propose a UAE-relevant independent study or research project and must arrange their own affiliation with a UAE public or private university or research institution. The official award page lists a flexible start and 4–10 month grant length. Current estimated benefits include a monthly stipend of USD 4,202–6,650, international travel, accident and sickness health benefits, and USD 11,750 in one-time research/materials and settling-in allowances. Dependent financial support can also be available under the published conditions. Final awards are contingent on medical clearance, UAE government clearance and availability of funds.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Eligible profiles include graduating seniors who will hold at least a bachelor’s degree by the grant start, recent graduates and master’s degree candidates/graduates; applicants with a PhD are not eligible for the U.S. Student Program. UAE host-country residency is not permitted in the year before the grant under the award’s three-month residency definition, and UAE dual citizens are not eligible. A UAE affiliation letter is required by the application deadline. Applicants should present a well-defined project relevant to the UAE and demonstrate independence, adaptability and intercultural/leadership capacity.
Tips for this visa & mobility opportunity
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Identify a UAE academic or research host and secure the required affiliation letter before the national deadline.
- Check the official UAE award page for any program-status updates before travel because final awards require UAE government clearance.
- Verify the official immigration, program or host-organization requirements before paying fees or sending documents.
- Check passport validity, financial evidence, insurance, appointment and processing-time requirements early.
- Do not rely on third-party claims of guaranteed visas; final decisions are made by the responsible authority.
Verification notes
Verified against the official UAE award page and Fulbright U.S. Student competition page. The 2027–2028 competition is open and the national deadline is October 6, 2026 at 5 PM Eastern Time, which is 21:00 UTC on that date. The UAE award page also displays grant calendar dates from an earlier cycle that conflict with the 2027–2028 label, so exact grant start/end dates are intentionally omitted and only the stated flexible start plus 4–10 month duration are retained.
