Google is hiring a Program Manager III, Carbon Removals, Global Sustainability to help scale its carbon removal and superpollutant purchasing activities.

About The Role

The Carbon Removal team works to identify and scale innovations needed by Google and the wider economy to address climate change.

Its portfolio includes breakthrough carbon removal technologies, nature-based carbon removal and superpollutant elimination.

The team forms part of Google’s Global Sustainability team and collaborates with research, product and advocacy teams across the company.

The successful candidate will lead complex, multidisciplinary projects, working with stakeholders to establish requirements, manage schedules, identify risks and coordinate activities across teams, offices and geographies.

Key responsibilities

The Program Manager III will:

• Manage carbon removal offtake deals from end to end, including sourcing projects and executing agreements.

• Set strategy for a defined area of carbon removal or superpollutant procurement, such as a particular pathway or geography.

• Shape and drive complex sustainability programs while navigating evolving and sometimes ambiguous environmental markets.

• Lead project diligence using both technical and commercial assessments.

• Assess the potential scale and certainty of climate impact from proposed projects.

• Evaluate project viability and business value.

• Negotiate and contract deals in collaboration with internal stakeholders, approvers, suppliers and other third parties.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have:

• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience with carbon removal and superpollutant credit types, including biomass-based, alkalinity-based, nature-based and superpollutant elimination pathways.

• At least 5 years of experience in program or project management.

• Experience managing an end-to-end pipeline of agreements, from sourcing through facilitation.

Preferred Qualifications

Google would also prefer candidates with:

• At least 5 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.

• Experience managing and driving complex programs in ambiguous environments.

• Experience in communications, marketing, public relations or financial modelling/analysis.

• Experience conducting business across different geographies within the United States and internationally.

• Experience working directly with suppliers on carbon removal or sustainability projects.

About Google’s Global Sustainability Team

Google’s Global Sustainability team develops and implements the company’s global sustainability strategy. Its work covers areas including carbon, water, circular economy, product integration, sustainability reporting and employee engagement.

The team also works to identify sustainability leadership opportunities, align priorities and mitigate risks while supporting sustainability initiatives internally and externally.

Salary And Benefits

The advertised US salary range for this position is: US$159,000–US$230,000 per year

The position also includes a 15% bonus target, equity and benefits.

Individual compensation is determined according to factors including job-related skills, relevant experience, education and training.
