Overview

A nine-month residential fellowship for accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, journalists, public intellectuals and artists, with discipline-specific 2026 application deadlines.

Complete fellowship details

The 2027–2028 Harvard Radcliffe Fellowship has two official application deadlines rather than one universal deadline: humanities, social sciences, creative arts, nonfiction and journalism close September 10, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time (21:00 UTC), while science, engineering and mathematics close October 1, 2026 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time (21:00 UTC). Fellows receive a $78,000 stipend plus $5,000 for project expenses and may be eligible for relocation, housing, childcare and healthcare support. Fellows must reside in the Cambridge/Boston area from September through May and participate in the fellowship community.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must satisfy the discipline-specific criteria published by Harvard Radcliffe. Current degree students and former Harvard Radcliffe fellows from 1999 to the present are ineligible. Humanities/social-sciences applicants generally need an eligible terminal doctorate awarded by December 2023 plus a monograph or at least two refereed articles/chapters; science, engineering and mathematics applicants need a doctorate by December 2023 plus at least five refereed articles. Nonfiction, journalism and creative-arts applicants have separate professional/publication requirements stated on the official page.

Tips for this fellowship

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

Verification notes

Verified against the current 2027–2028 Harvard Radcliffe application page and the official application portal. No single deadline is stored in the top-level deadline fields because the official program has two discipline-specific deadlines: September 10, 2026 at 5 PM ET for humanities/social sciences/creative arts/nonfiction/journalism and October 1, 2026 at 5 PM ET for science/engineering/mathematics. Both fall during Eastern Daylight Time and normalize to 21:00 UTC. Funding values are taken from the current application page.
