Overview
The Institute for Advanced Study's School of Social Science is accepting applications for residential fellowships for September 2027–May 2028. The 2027–28 theme is Understanding AI, while roughly half the selected scholars may pursue projects outside the theme.
Complete fellowship details
Approximately 20 scholars are invited each year. Applicants may come from a wide range of social-science and related fields. The fellowship is residential for the full academic year. The online application requires a research proposal of up to four pages, a CV and a writing sample of up to 50 pages; references are not required and will not be accepted.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent scholarly credentials at the time of application; the degree must be awarded no later than 15 October 2026. The fellowship requires residence for the full September 2027–May 2028 academic year.
