The Institute of Science and Technology Austria has announced its 2027 PhD intake timeline. The application portal will open in late October 2026 and close on 8 January 2027 at 15:00 CET, with referee letters due 12 January 2027 at 23:59 CET. The programme begins 15 September 2027. ISTA's PhD is interdisciplinary, English-speaking and fully funded. PhD students are employees of ISTA, receive full social-security coverage and pay no tuition or application fees. For 2026, ISTA lists gross PhD salaries ranging from EUR 3,053 to EUR 3,673 per month depending on prior degree and progress, paid 14 times per year; future salary rates may change.
