The FY2027 SATREPS call is open for international joint research projects linking Japanese research institutions with counterpart institutions in developing countries on environment and energy, bioresources, and disaster prevention and mitigation.

Research proposals are accepted from 18 August to 19 October 2026 at 12:00 noon Japan time. Projects run for 3–5 years. The current call page states approximate funding of JPY 100 million per project per year, with JST contract-research expenses around JPY 35 million per year (up to JPY 175 million over five years) and JICA ODA project expenses up to JPY 300 million over five years, JPY 240 million over four years, or JPY 180 million over three years. JST notes these funding figures refer to the prior application process and may change before the FY2027 budget is finalized. A counterpart-country ODA request must reach Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs by 13 October 2026; local government internal deadlines can be earlier.
Eligibility requirements
The Japanese-side proposal information is targeted at researchers belonging to research institutions or universities in Japan. A counterpart research institution in an eligible ODA partner country must coordinate the official ODA technical-cooperation request through its responsible ministry or agency and the local Japanese embassy or JICA office.
