Overview
JST and NRC are running a Japan–Canada collaborative call for pre-commercial AI and automation technologies that improve agricultural productivity and resilience.
Complete grant details
Projects must develop pre-commercial agriculture technologies using AI and automation to optimize processes, predictions and forecasting. A consortium needs at least five participants: at least one Japanese university/research institution and one Japanese company, plus at least one Canadian university/research institution, one incorporated Canadian SME and one NRC researcher. Around three projects are expected to be funded for three years; the Japanese-side support is capped at approximately JPY 58.5 million including direct and indirect costs.
Eligibility requirements
A qualifying Japan–Canada consortium is required. The Japan project leader submits through e-Rad. On the Canadian side, the project leader had to register electronically by 26 August 2026 and must submit an EOI to NRC by 9 September 2026; only teams that satisfy the Canadian prerequisite and pass EOI evaluation proceed to the final consortium proposal. Required submissions must be made to both JST and NRC.
Tips for this grant
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified on the current JST SICORP call page on 2026-09-08 UTC. The final deadline is 30 November 2026 at 17:00 JST, normalized to 08:00 UTC. This is not open to a newly formed Canadian lead that missed the 26 August registration prerequisite; the Canadian EOI deadline is 9 September 2026. Japanese-side funding is stated as no more than approximately JPY 58.5 million over three years.
