Overview
The 7th Cooperation Development Research (KoEF) call funds 24-month collaborative research projects between an Austrian public higher-education or research institution and at least one eligible partner institution in a DAC-listed least-developed, low-income or lower-middle-income country, excluding India.
Complete grant details
The 2026 KoEF call is open from 1 September to 30 November 2026. Projects should address development-relevant research questions and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals while strengthening equitable, long-term research cooperation. The maximum KoEF grant is EUR 40,000 per project for a 24-month project. Eligible cost categories are mobility and essential material costs; the programme requires appropriate own funds from the coordinating and/or partner institutions. Projects may start from July 2027 through December 2027.
Eligibility requirements
Only PhD-holding researchers affiliated with an Austrian public university or research-performing institution may submit and coordinate a proposal. Every consortium must include at least one Austrian public university or research-performing institution and at least one state-accredited university or research-performing institution in an eligible partner country on the OECD DAC list used by the call. Participating researchers must be PhD students or PhD holders; Master's students are not eligible to participate.
Tips for this grant
Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.
- Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.
Verification notes
Verified on the official OeAD KoEF 7th Call page and its official StipOnline application gateway. OeAD states the deadline as 30 November 2026 at 13:00 CET; CET is UTC+1 on that date, so the stored UTC deadline is 12:00Z. The page states a maximum funding amount of EUR 40,000 per project and a 24-month project duration.
