Kutsaga Research Fleet Officer Job Vacancy

Kutsaga Research is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Fleet Officer on a 12-month fixed-term, performance-based contract.

• Job Title: Fleet Officer
• Job Location: Kutsaga Research Station, Harare
• Closing Date: 4 October 2026
• Work Format: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

The successful candidate will oversee fleet operations, logistics and maintenance management while providing relief Class 1 driving services. The position reports to the Engineering Superintendent.

Fleet & Logistics Management

• Oversee day-to-day fleet operations, route planning, fuel management, vehicle tracking systems and fleet allocation.
• Optimize asset utilization and cost efficiency.

Maintenance & Technical Oversight

• Conduct routine vehicle inspections and manage job cards.
• Diagnose technical defects and coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Work with the internal workshop and third-party vendors.

Statutory Compliance & Safety

• Ensure fleet assets maintain valid vehicle licensing, Certificates of Fitness (COF), ZINARA compliance and insurance.
• Ensure adherence to NSSA/OSHE safety standards.

Driver Supervision

• Manage driver schedules.
• Monitor driver behaviour and road performance through telematics tracking systems.
• Enforce safety and operational policies.

Relief Driving Services

• Safely operate heavy trucks and staff buses during driver leave, sickness or emergency operations.
• Transport employees, materials and equipment as required.

Administrative Reporting

• Maintain detailed fleet records.
• Compile weekly and monthly reports covering fuel consumption, maintenance costs and fleet availability.

The Fleet Officer will also perform other relevant operational or engineering duties as assigned by the Engineering Superintendent.

Qualifications, Experience And Attributes

• Diploma in Transport & Logistics Management or a related field. Higher qualifications are an added advantage.
• Valid and clean Class 1 Driver’s Licence with requisite endorsements.
• Valid medical certificate, retest and Defensive Driving Certificate (DDC).
• Minimum five (5) years’ practical experience in heavy fleet management and operations.
• Proven experience operating staff buses and articulated heavy trucks.
• Strong knowledge of automotive mechanics and job card procedures.
• Practical experience with vehicle tracking/telematics systems such as Cartrack and Connected Car.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word, and computerized fleet/maintenance management software.
• Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure with high integrity and professionalism.
