Overview
The Lafayette Fellowship funds one year of master’s-level study in France for up to 30 outstanding students with qualifying bachelor’s degrees from U.S. institutions.

Benefits include a €1,500 monthly stipend from July through the end of the academic year, one year of tuition at an eligible partner French institution/program, reimbursement of eligible French master’s application fees, student visa fee waivers, a round-trip flight between the U.S. and France, and travel/activity costs for the French-American Leadership Program. Applications open 4 September 2026.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be age 27 or younger as of 1 July 2027, hold a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution completed between January 2024 and June 2027, and have at least a 3.70/4.00 GPA. French proficiency is not required by the Fellowship itself, although a partner degree may require it. Applicants must separately apply to and be admitted by an eligible partner French institution.

Verification notes
Official 2027–28 pages agree on a 1 December 2026 closing date but conflict on the clock time: the Fellowship overview says 11:59 p.m. EST while the How to Apply/FAQ pages say 11:59 a.m. EST. To avoid inventing which clock time controls, only deadline_date is stored. Applicants should check the portal when it opens on 4 September.
