About the Role
You will be responsible for overseeing all legal and compliance aspects related to licensing, intellectual property, and content distribution for games, apps, and digital products. This role requires strong legal expertise, negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of licensing frameworks ensuring that all agreements, contracts, and content operations are compliant, secure, and aligned with business objectives. You will work closely with product, publishing, partnerships, and executive teams to support growth, protect the companys interests, and enable smooth content distribution globally.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Drafting & Contract Management Draft, review, and negotiate license agreements, publishing agreements, distribution contracts, content-use agreements, and third-party collaborations. Ensure contracts include clear terms on rights, obligations, payment, royalty/share models, deliverables, termination clauses, warranties, indemnities, and compliance with applicable laws. Manage renewals, amendments, and terminations of licensing agreements. Intellectual Property & Rights Management Manage IP rights registration, protection (copyrights, trademarks, domain names), and enforcement. Conduct due diligence on third-party content, assets, and collaborations to verify rights clearance and avoid infringement risks. Monitor and respond to copyright/IP infringement claims, takedown notices, and licensing disputes.
Regulatory Compliance & Legal Risk Mitigation Advise on and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (data privacy, consumer protection, digital content laws, age ratings, export controls, regional compliance). Develop and maintain legal policies and documentation: EULA, Terms of Service (TOS), Privacy Policy, license usage terms, user agreements. Conduct internal audits of licensing and content distribution practices; identify legal risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Partner & Publisher Liaison Act as primary legal contact for external partners, publishers, distributors, licensors, and affiliates regarding licensing and content deals. Facilitate negotiations, contract signings, renewals, and compliance checks with partners and third parties. Support business development and partnership teams by providing legal guidance on prospective collaborations.
Cross-Functional Support & Advisory Collaborate with product, development, finance, and management teams to align legal strategy with business objectives. Provide legal support and guidance for monetization models, in-app purchases, licensing of IP, and content distribution strategies. Advise on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and licensing-related transactions including due diligence, contract structuring, and risk assessment.
Dispute Resolution & Legal Representation Manage and resolve licensing disputes, contract breaches, IP infringement cases, and compliance issues. Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed for litigation, arbitration, or other legal actions. Maintain accurate records of legal cases and licensing history for audit and compliance purposes.
Policy Development & Legal Governance Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global and regional laws relevant to gaming, software, digital content, data privacy, and licensing. Develop internal legal frameworks, guidelines, and compliance protocols for licensing, content usage, and partnerships. Provide training and legal awareness to internal teams on licensing obligations, compliance, and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience Law degree (LLB / LLM) and valid license to practice law (or equivalent qualification). Minimum 57 years of professional experience in licensing, intellectual property, media & entertainment law, or technology/software law. Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating complex licensing, distribution, and content-use agreements. Strong knowledge of intellectual property law, digital media law, data protection/privacy laws, and international content distribution regulations. Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills. Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities, with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly to non-legal teams. High ethical standards, integrity, and ability to handle confidential information sensitively. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple contracts/projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines. Proactive approach to risk management, compliance, and legal governance.
