Linux Device Driver Engineer

Must be a U.S. Person           Job Summary: As a Linux Device Driver Engineer at Hellbender, you will play a key role in developing the low-level software that powers a range of projects and products, including cameras and robotic sensors, from the ground up. Your work will focus on building and maintaining Linux kernel drivers and the interfaces that connect our hardware platforms to higher-level applications. You'll work primarily in a Linux environment, writing software in languages such as C, C++, and Rust, and building embedded Linux images using Yocto/BitBake. An ideal candidate will have strong familiarity with kernel internals, hardware bring-up, and low-level systems debugging. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Design, write, and maintain Linux kernel drivers and low-level software for camera and sensor hardware Develop and debug software that communicates with devices over interfaces including CAN, UART, I2C, SPI, MIPI CSI, and others Bring up new hardware platforms, including board support package (BSP) development, device tree configuration, and kernel/bootloader integration Build and maintain embedded Linux distributions using Yocto and BitBake, including custom layers and recipes Collaborate with hardware engineering teams to define driver requirements and troubleshoot hardware/software interaction issues Demonstrate proficiency in low-level debugging, performance analysis, and systems-level software engineering Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:   1-3 years of hands-on experience in Linux kernel or device driver development preferred, but new graduates with relevant coursework or project experience are invited to apply Working experience with the Linux kernel, kernel modules, and driver development Strong working experience with C; experience with C++ and/or Rust a plus Familiarity with device tree, U-Boot, or other bootloader/BSP concepts preferred Experience with Yocto/BitBake or similar embedded Linux build systems preferred Good working knowledge of revision control and code review tools like Git Experience manipulating GPIO and working with embedded Linux hardware platforms Ability to read schematics and data sheets, with hands-on experience debugging hardware at the register or bus level   Benefits: 401(k) 5% Safe Harbor Contribution to 401k by Hellbender 100% of Health, Dental, and Vision insurance premiums for employees and their families paid by Hellbender 7.5 weeks total Paid time off Profit Sharing (through 401k) Hybrid work environment & flexible work schedule Work Location:  Pittsburgh Opportunity for advancement:  Hellbender is a growing business and follows a policy that prioritizes internal promotions.
