As a Mainframe Software Engineer, you will help design, develop, and modernize core data discovery and scanning capabilities across enterprise systems. You will focus on a Java-based mainframe agent running on IBM z/OS, enabling scalable access to critical mainframe data sources while supporting the modernization of legacy implementations. Working within a broader Java engineering team, you will contribute to cross-platform solutions, share mainframe expertise, and help evolve modern platform capabilities and architecture. WHAT YOU'LL DO Design, develop, and maintain a Java-based agent running on IBM z/OS systems. Build capabilities to scan and interact with mainframe technologies, including VSAM, QSAM, IMS, DB2, flat files, and system-level resources. Design, implement, and support scalable software solutions from development through production operations. Build and maintain scalable microservices and APIs using Spring and Spring Boot. Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability for large-scale data scanning and processing workloads. Contribute across the broader Java platform and support engineering initiatives beyond the mainframe domain when needed. Share mainframe expertise and support other engineers in developing knowledge and capabilities within the domain. Collaborate with engineering, architecture, product, and cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges and deliver customer-focused outcomes. We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Prague office in compliance with Everpure's policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave. WHAT YOU BRING Experience with modern Java development frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot. Experience building distributed systems, APIs, or microservices-based architectures. Familiarity with containerized environments and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes. Experience working with IBM z/OS or enterprise mainframe environments . Knowledge of mainframe technologies and concepts such as VSAM, QSAM, JCL, datasets, DB2, IMS, or similar systems. Experience designing and delivering software solutions that balance performance, reliability, and maintainability. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills, with the ability to solve complex technical challenges. Curiosity, adaptability, and an interest in learning new technologies and evolving engineering practices. MAY BE BENEFICIAL AI-assisted development tools and practices. DevOps, CI/CD, and software delivery automation. Golang development. COBOL, REXX, RACF, USS, or other mainframe technologies.
