Full Job Description

Amazon's Operations Infrastructure Services (OIS) team builds the unified self-service experience that manages networking, compute, and devices across thousands of global operations sites, from fulfillment centers to delivery stations and grocery stores. OIS is standing up a dedicated Solutions Architecture function to help solution teams get their infrastructure right the first time, catching design issues while there's still room to change course, instead of after the architecture is already locked in.

This is a zero-to-one opportunity to shape and rebuild the Solutions Architect strategy for OIS. We are hiring a Manager, Solutions Architecture to build, coach, and lead this team from the ground up. You will develop technically skilled Solutions Architects who partner with solution owners on the programs self-service can't absorb, novel hardware deployments, greenfield architecture, and cross-org trade-offs, and help them grow their depth in infrastructure design, consulting, and stakeholder influence. You will also shape how your team's expertise gets built into the tools solution builders use to check their designs along the way.

Key job responsibilities Build and lead a team of Solutions Architects, coaching them on infrastructure design judgment, consulting skills, and how to influence stakeholders across engineering and operations. Define where and how your team engages, focusing their time on the programs that genuinely need human judgment, novel hardware deployments, greenfield architecture, and cross-org trade-offs, rather than work that can be self-served. Own the Solutions Architecture strategy for OIS, shaping how the function grows, what it prioritizes, and how it partners with solution teams from design through pilot deployment. Champion design-phase engagement as the standard way of working, helping solution teams catch issues early instead of after architecture decisions are already locked in. Partner with the Knowledge Hub and AI Assistant teams to build your team's expertise into self-service tools, so solution builders can check their designs against SA standards without always needing a human review. Develop your Solutions Architects into more senior, higher-impact roles as the team and its scope grow.

A day in the life You start your morning reviewing the queue of programs your team is engaged on, checking in with your Solutions Architects on where they're seeing risk and where a design conversation with a solution owner needs to happen sooner rather than later. You sit in on one of those design reviews yourself, not to make the call, but to coach your SA through how they frame trade-offs to a room full of engineers who are used to building their own way.

Later, you meet with your counterparts on the Knowledge Hub and AI Assistant teams to talk through what's working and what isn't in the self-service design checks, feeding back what your team is seeing in the field so the tooling keeps getting sharper. You also spend time on your team itself: a 1:1 with an SA who's ready to take on a harder class of programs, a conversation with a stakeholder about where you need more coverage, and time carving out the next quarter's priorities for a function that's still being built.

By the end of the day, you've made a few calls on where your team should and shouldn't be spending its time, coached someone through a hard conversation, and moved your strategy forward, all while keeping your team focused on the handful of programs where their judgment actually changes the outcome.

About the team This team exists to bring architectural judgment to OIS's highest-stakes infrastructure decisions, the ones where novel hardware, greenfield design, or trade-offs across orgs mean there's no playbook to follow yet. That's a different kind of value than a checklist can provide, and it's why solution teams bring their hardest problems here.

You're joining at the point where this function is still taking shape, which means your team's judgment, and yours, will define how OIS approaches infrastructure design for years to come.
