Medior AI Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Medior AI Developer based in South Africa. As a Medior AI Developer, you’ll join a remote-first engineering team building modern, AI-enabled platforms used by real customers and internal teams. You’ll take well-defined features from roadmap to production, working primarily with C#/.NET, Azure Functions, and REST APIs. The role focuses on applied AI engineering, integrating technologies such as Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft Copilot into production applications. You’ll collaborate closely with senior engineers and a Product Owner while contributing to code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing. You’ll also help shape a major modernization programme as legacy business platforms move toward a modern Azure-native architecture. This is a hands-on development role focused on shipping new functionality rather than maintenance or business-as-usual support. The position follows a 09:00–18:00 CEST working schedule.

Build, test, and deliver new features and components for platforms and AI-powered solutions using C#/.NET and Azure Functions , taking clearly defined work items through to production. Develop AI integrations using Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft Copilot , contributing to prompt design and grounding approaches. Design, develop, and test REST API integrations connecting internal platforms with client systems. Work with Azure SQL and Entity Framework Core , following established data models and tenant-isolation patterns while identifying opportunities for improvement. Follow established engineering practices across Git, GitHub Actions CI/CD, code reviews, and AI-assisted development , while also reviewing and contributing to colleagues’ work. Instrument applications, monitor production performance, interpret telemetry, and use insights to improve the solutions you build. Break roadmap items into practical delivery steps, provide realistic estimates, and proactively communicate risks affecting scope or timelines. Create clear technical documentation and actively share knowledge with colleagues. Collaborate with the Product Owner and engineering team to refine requirements and understand the impact of technical decisions on users, clients, and business outcomes. Requirements: 2+ years of professional software development experience , excluding internships and academic projects. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline , or equivalent practical software development experience. Strong professional experience with C# and .NET , including developing and consuming REST APIs. Experience with relational databases and ORM technologies , such as Azure SQL and Entity Framework Core, or comparable technologies. Familiarity with professional Git-based development workflows and CI/CD practices . Professional proficiency in written and spoken English . Ability to work independently on clearly defined assignments and raise challenges early, ideally together with potential solutions. Strong written communication skills and a structured approach to documentation and knowledge sharing. Comfortable collaborating asynchronously as part of a distributed, remote-first team . Experience with Azure services such as Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Azure AI services, or Application Insights is advantageous. Hands-on experience with LLM APIs or AI development frameworks , such as Azure AI Foundry, Anthropic Claude, or similar technologies, is advantageous. Experience using AI-assisted development tools , including GitHub Copilot or comparable solutions, is a plus. A strong product mindset and the ability to connect technical implementation with user needs, client outcomes, and business value are valued. Technical requirements: Minimum internet speed of 15 Mbps download and 15 Mbps upload , with latency below 120 ms internationally . Minimum 8 GB RAM . Windows 11 excluding S Mode, or macOS 13.0 or newer . Processor with a CPU Mark of at least 7368 , comparable to an Intel i5-8300H or higher. Intel processors should be 8th generation or newer; Ryzen processors should be 2nd generation or newer. Integrated graphics card.
