Band 6 Locum Occupational Therapist – Older Adult Mental Health

Location: Leeds Contract: Locum Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (May be available to part time candidates) Duration: 3 Months Start Date: ASAP (subject to pre-employment compliance checks)

Our client is seeking an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join their dedicated multidisciplinary team on an all-female assessment and admission ward for adults aged 65 and over experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within an inpatient mental health setting, supporting older adults through assessment, recovery, and discharge planning while promoting independence, wellbeing, and meaningful engagement in daily activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions within an acute older adult mental health inpatient service.

  • Assess functional abilities, cognition, mood, and occupational performance to inform treatment planning.

  • Develop and implement person-centred care plans that promote recovery and independence.

  • Facilitate therapeutic activities and interventions for individuals and groups.

  • Support discharge planning and contribute to safe and effective transitions of care.

  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including nursing staff, psychologists, psychiatrists, and social care professionals.

  • Complete risk assessments and manage clinical risks appropriately.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and provide comprehensive reports where required.

  • Enable patients to maximise their independence and quality of life through meaningful occupation.

Requirements

  • HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Previous experience working as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist or equivalent.

  • Experience within mental health services

  • Strong assessment, clinical reasoning, and care planning skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of risk management, safeguarding, and discharge processes.
