An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join a well-established laboratory in the East Midlands. This locum role is ideal for a qualified APT with experience across routine and high-risk post-mortem cases who is committed to delivering a professional, compassionate, and high-quality mortuary service. The successful candidate will support post-mortem examinations, liaise with bereaved families and external agencies, and contribute to the smooth operation of a cross-site service.

What will your responsibilities be:

  • Participate in routine and high-risk post-mortem examinations within a busy mortuary environment.

  • Prepare and eviscerate deceased individuals for examination by Consultant Histopathologists.

  • Reconstruct the deceased to a high cosmetic standard for release to families and funeral directors.

  • Organise, coordinate, and facilitate viewings and formal identifications.

  • Liaise professionally with bereaved families, Coroner's representatives, funeral directors, police, and other agencies.

  • Participate in the receipt, documentation, storage, and discharge of deceased individuals entering and leaving the mortuary.

  • Contribute to the delivery of a 24-hour mortuary service through participation in the on-call rota and major incident response plans.

  • Support cross-site working arrangements and maintain compliance with relevant health, safety, governance, and dignity standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential Requirements

  • Level 4 Anatomical Pathology Technologist qualification.

  • Certificate in Anatomical Pathology Technology.

  • Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.

  • Membership of the Anatomical Pathologists' Association (or equivalent professional body).

  • Experience participating in routine and high-risk post-mortem examinations.

  • Ability to prepare, eviscerate, and reconstruct the deceased to a high professional and cosmetic standard.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with bereaved families and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working across multiple sites.

  • Experience participating in an on-call rota and major incident response procedures.
